Quotes we loved:

”We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.”

Mother Teresa

“I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”

Journaling questions we are pondering:

There is only one thing we have to get perfect at. Getting back up.

Look back into your life. What does getting back up look like for you? Can you see patterns in your internal dialogue, irrespective of the trigger? What are some of the things you do, say, feel that help you get back up? How can you employ them better next time?

This week’s blog post:

My first dark swim in open waters

I wrote this a while back but there are still things that stir my fear despite how many dark swims I have done since. Thought I would reshare in the depths of winter when shorter days require a few of us to be braver in the early morning or evening just to get our open water fix!

“There was a big part of me that was also so curious, determined to experience this, determined to win over the incessant chatter my lizard brain was volunteering. Determined to wash off the last last two years of Covid-19 confinement and numbness, with an experience that would not only push me beyond my comfort zone, but would redefine the very way I could experience my body on this planet. To use all my senses and feel all my emotions”

One new thing we learnt this week:

According Dr Stacy Sim, a world expert in all things training and nutrition specifically for women, women benefit the best from cold water therapy in water temperatures of approximately 16 degrees celsius, which is cold enough invoke beneficial changes of cold water exposure.

If you would like to hear more of this rich and nuanced conversation, you can do so by listening to The Huberman Lab podcast episode here and on all major platforms.

What we are listening to:

Thoroughly enjoy listening to the ‘Coastal Swim Cast’ episodes on my commutes to my morning swims. Allie and Terri offer educational and absolutely fun conversations about open water swimming, water safety and the wonderful practice and benefits of being in the sea.

I have started listening to their very first episodes and enjoyed them, from the wetsuit or no wetsuit conversation that was all too familiar , to pool etiquette and lots more.

You can find the ‘Coastal Swim Cast’ here and on all major platforms.
